ROSSLYN LAURA 3

The party went on well until all hell broke loose when Jason was giving his speech.Larry showed up.Rosslyn couldn't believe her eyes.She hadn't expected him to be there.She had tried her best to keep their engagement from him.

"Girlfriend,sorry I forgot to tell you,he found out.You know how rumors spread out so fast like a fire on some dry grass."Melissa her campus bestfriend said acting concerned.

Before they knew it Larry lashed out at Jason which led to them breaking into a fight both throwing punches at each other. Mark and one of her uncles ran up and started pulling them apart.Jason kicked him so hard as he broke free.

There was commotion since everyone had risen from their seats.Rossyln was shouting telling them to stop.Melissa held her back so she wouldn't get caught up in it.

She ran after Larry as he walked hurriedly out of the crowd.

"Larry,wait."

He kept on walking.When she caught up with him they were already outside the front yard.

"Larry,I can explain."

"Explain?"From his voice you could tell that he was torn and broken.He was shaking vigorously like a leaf being blown away in a massive wind."When where you plan on telling me?I had to find out from our school mates.I was a fool to think what we had was special."

Rosslyn opened her mouth to speak but her tongue felt heavy.Tears were streaming down her cheeks erasing her well applied make up.She stood glued on the ground and watched as Larry drove off.Then Mr.Edward's followed with his family.

She went back inside feeling weak as if her legs could no longer hold her.People were dispersing.She locked herself in her room until the next day.Her mother had knocked asking her to come out and eat but she wouldn't let anyone in.She felt sorry for Larry.He was a nice guy and didn't deserve any of it,guilt stirred up in her throat.

Campus had resumed.Rumours had it that Jason's gang had gone after Larry  beating him up for showing at the party.They had warned him to stay away from him and fiancee.He still had bruises on his face.

Rosslyn and Melissa were walking out of the Library when they saw Larry walking headed to another room.

"He still won't talk to you?" Melissa asked her both of them staring at him.

"Not just talk,he even blocked me.I can't even contact him.I really want to apologize and explain things to him."

"Give him time dear.You'd have behaved so if you were in his place."

"Or even worse I bet."

Days went by and Rosslyn grew weary of waiting for a chance to apologize to Larry. She therefore decided to go see him at his place later after classes. Her hands were all sweaty as she knocked the door.No one answered and she had to knock again.It was when she about to leave when the door sprung open.Before her stood Melissa with a towel wrapped around her.She was dump founded. She felt as if she was in a nightmare.Could this get any worse?She wondered.

"Baby who is it?" Larry spoke heading to them.He stood behind Melissa.He was wearing only a short and his hair was wet.They stood there staring at each other.He didn't utter a word either.He seemed rather shocked.Melissa looked like she had seen a ghost.Rossyln turned and left.She heard the door slam behind her.

Everything seemed dark as walked through campus back to her room.She sat on her bed staring at Melissa's which was across the room.She couldn't believe it. Melissa?She had never expected that.She was her bestfriend.She felt torn.Later she packed a few of her stuff and went home.Her mother was surprised to see her.

"Honey,you didn't call to say you were coming I'd have prepared your favorite dish."

"It's okay mom.I don't feel well anyway."

"Should we go see a doctor?"Belle asked  touching her forehead to feel her temperature.

"No mom, it's nothing serious.Am sure I'll be fine after some rest."

"Are you sure?You look like you've been crying.We should go see him dear."

"No mom,I'll be fine."

"Okay then."

Inside her room she threw off a photo of Melissa and herself that was on a table next to bed.She went on crying.

Part of her did not want to ever go back to campus.She wanted to stay home.But that would be impossible since her father would question her.

"Rosslyn, your friend is here to see you."Her mother called her out.

She was lying on her bed crying when Melissa walked in.

"Why are you here?"She sat up and questioned her.

"My conscience wouldn't let me be.I couldn't help."

"Your conscience?Where was it when you went after Larry despite knowing what am going through with him right now."

"I can't justify myself,I know."There was silence between them for a second before she went on speaking."Plus,you are already engaged to Jason,no big deal,right?"

"Hush,just leave."

"Come on.We've been friends for so long.Will some boys come between us?"

"Melissa just go,I can't have this conversation right now."

She opened her mouth to speak again but Rosslyn interrupted her.This time she spoke with a high tone."I said leave!"She sprang out of bed opened the door signaling her to leave.

Her mother who had heard her scream was standing at the door.

"Are you girls okay?"Belle asked as Melissa walked out.

Her mother walked in and sat beside her.She leaned on her mother's shoulder and wept like a toddler.

Belle consulted her wondering what had really happened between them since they were quite close.She wanted to question her but seeing  tears streaming down her cheeks she just held her tight in her arms.
