ROSSLYN LAURA 7

It was on a weekend.It was afternoon when Rossyln arrived at Jason's place.They were going to watch a movie later that night.On her way in she met two police officers headed outside.They were casually dressed but she noticed their badges.She knocked on the door several times but no one opened it.She walked in and there was no one downstairs.

She was about head to Jason's room when she heard two people talking in the kitchen.It was Mr.Edward and Jess.Their conversation got her attention and slowly she tip-toed to the door.

"I told you I did not kill her."Jess was telling her husband.

"Tell me then,why did they show up at our place."Edward went ahead to ask her.

"How am I supposed to know?"

"They claimed that she was pregnant.They even intend to have Jason's DNA samples tested to see if it matches with the child's.I really hope you are telling the truth Jess."

Rosslyn heart was beating fast behind her chest.She wasn't sure if what she had heard was true.Which girl were they discussing about?She wondered?Was it Nicole?"

"I am,I had nothing to do with it."Jess replied calmy.

"How about her pregnancy.Did you know she was pregnant?"

"I already told you..."

Before she could here the rest she heard someone walking downstairs.She hence withdrew from the kitchen door and stared walking to the living room.

"Rosslyn,hello.I didn't know you visited."It was their house keeper.Everyone called her 'nanny'.She had been their house help for a very long time.She was growing older as days went by.She had witnessed the kids grow up.She had grown to be a member of Edwards's family over the years.

"Hello nanny.I came to see Jason.Is he around?"

Mr. and Mrs Edward heard them talking and walked out of the kitchen.Jess was carrying a glass of wine in her hand.

"Hello Rosslyn."She kissed her on both cheeks.

Mr.Edward passed them without saying a word.

"Jason left a few minutes ago with his friends.He said I should tell you to linger around till he's back.He won't take long I hope."Jess said as she  headed upstairs to her room.

"Should I serve you anything? Dessert or fresh juice?"Nanny asked Rosslyn who was now seated in the living room.

"Fresh pineapple juice if you don't mind."

"Okay."She said before disappearing into the kitchen.

Rosslyn waited for ages.Thirty minutes had passed since he'd told her on the phone that he was on his way back.She got bored and decided to wait a few more minutes in his room.

She turned on music and sat on his bed.His laptop beeped and an email popped up.Just when she was about to start scrolling through it Jason walked in.His heart jumped when he saw her holding it.

"What are you doing with that?"He asked before taking it from her.

"Nothing."

"Did you go through it?"

"No?Why? It wouldn't be first time am going through your laptop.Anything the matter?"

"No."He said hugging her tight in his arms."It was just a long day.Am sorry."

"What was long about it?"They were now both seated in his cozy bed.

"Nothing I can't handle."

"Are sure?I met two police officers on my way in.Is there something I should know?"

"No wifey.They came to meet my dad."

Rosslyn could tell he was lying.She couldn't help but wonder why he wasn't telling the truth.Her mind kept rewinding Mr. and Mrs. Edward's conversation which she had overheard earlier.She wanted to tell him about it but decided to keep it to herself.Questions were starting to pile up in her head.This curiosity would drive her to seek for answers.

"Okay,I won't ask about it again then."She said after being silent for minutes.

"Sorry I kept you waiting."

"You should be."

"Am sorry."He kissed her forehead and went on talking."We should get going then.Already bought our tickets."

"Okay."She took her white leather bag before heading out hand in hand with him.

On arrival they were joined by one of Jason's friend;Caleb and his girlfriend Becca.They stopped to buy everal snacks on there way in.It was fully packed compared to other weekends.Everyone seemed very eager for this particular movie.

The movie was halfway when Jason and Caleb left for the toilet.Few minutes had passed when Becca got a text from his boyfriend.Jason had broken into a fight with some other guy.Both Becca and Rosslyn  walked hastily out of the theatre.

"How's that possible?They were just here a few minutes ago."Rosslyn asked Becca who just shrugged as they went on walking.

Their was a large crowd around them.Two security guards were pulling them apart when they arrived.

"Your whole family is going to pay for this."The other guy was screaming and shouting at Jason trying hard to pull away from the guard who was holding him.

"Baby,are you alright?"Rosslyn asked when she got to him.He didn't say a word but headed to his car which was parked a few miles away.

"Everyone!"The other guy went on shouting out loud.

Caleb and Becca parted ways with them and headed back inside.

"What was that about?"Rosslyn asked him when they got to the car.

"I don't know.I was on my way to the toilet when I met that guy.He must have been drunk."

"That makes two of you.You are drunk as well."

"That's not it.He picked a fight on me for no reason."

"Are you sure? Your head is bleeding dear.How can this be for no reason?He sounded really furious."

"Can we not talk about it right now.I want to go home."

"Okay.If you say so."

They drove off and didn't talk much through their entire ride.Jason drove her home before heading to his place.

"A long day indeed."Rosslyn thought on her way in.

She called Melissa when she got to her room.

"Hello dear.How was movie night?"Melissa was happy when she got a call from her best friend.

"Not as planned."She replied in a low tone.

"Why?What happened."

She went ahead to narate everything which had transpired that entire night.

"Am sorry dear."Melissa sympathized with her.

"I think Jason is hiding something from me."

"What?Maybe you are just overthinking."

"No,I can feel it in my gut feeling.Concerning that girl that died."

"Why would you think that dear."

"Earlier today I overheard a conversation between his parents.Long story,I'll tell you about it when am back in campus.Am tired and sleepy."

"Okay girlfriend.Goodnight."

"Goodnight."She said before hanging up.

She was restless and unsettled that night.She laid with her eyes wide open.She had a lot of unanswered questions.She was determined to embark on a mission to find all answers.Part of her still wanted to believe in Jason but another part  believed he had a secret.

"Hello wifey.Am sorry our date didn't go as planned." Jason called her when he got home.

"It's okay.Hope you got home safe."

"Yes I did."

"Okay.I was just about to sleep."

"Take a nap then.We'll talk tomorrow.Lovely night.I love you.

"Lovely night.Love you too."

It took hours for her to finally fall asleep.
